FOUR WEEK OCEAN SAFETY AND INTERPETATION PROGRAM
FOR BOYS AND GIRLS AGE 9-16 YEARS OLD
SESSION 1: June 24th – July 21stSESSION 2: July 26th – August 20th
Program Hours: MONDAY – FRIDAY 9am – 3pm
Location: Huntington State Beach (Tower 10, in front of power plant)
OUR PROGRAM
The Huntington State Beach (HSB) Junior Lifeguard Program is a 4-week long ocean oriented course taking place at HSB. The aim of our program is to provide a safe place where participants can be instructed in a variety of skills pertaining to the lifeguarding profession and the aquatic environment. Instructors will introduce participants to basic CPR skills, First Aid, rescue techniques, and lifeguarding procedures. We also include an interpretive component provides information about the ocean habitats and local ecosystems including field trips.
INSTRUCTORS
Our staff is made up of current State Park lifeguards all of which are required to have spent two seasons in the field prior to becoming an Instructor. Currently we average nearly 9 years of experience among the 8 returning full-time instructors. All of our instructors possess an intimate knowledge of the ocean, excellent lifeguarding skills, and a great ability to interact with youths.
ACTIVITIES
Unlike other local programs which only offer 3 hours of training, we offer six hours of instruction per day. The extra time we offer allows our program to be more in-depth in all areas of instruction. But of course it also allows us to have more fun time as well.

Recreation: Surfing, Bodyboarding, Dodgeball, Beach Flags….
Education: CPR Skills, First Aid Skills, Mock Rescues, Victim recognition, Beach Operations…
Interpretation: Least Tern Preserve, Aquarium of Pacific,
Competition: Activities designed to increase participation at both individual and team level. (optional regional and national comps)

SWIM 100 YARDS UNDER THE TIME STANDARD FOR YOUR AGE
9 - 10 YRS 2:10

SWIM COMPLETELY UNDERWATER FOR 10 YARDS
TREAD WATER FOR FIVE MINUTES WITHOUT REST
